Trump Praises ICE Amid Government Shutdown
President Donald Trump has expressed support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents stationed at airports during the ongoing partial government shutdown. He noted that the public seems to appreciate their work.
Travelers have experienced significant delays at airports since Congress failed to agree on funding for the Department of Homeland Security, heavily impacting the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
“They’re great American patriots,” Trump remarked about ICE agents. He added, perhaps a bit tongue-in-cheek, that they possess “much bigger, harder muscles than other people.” It’s an interesting way to frame things.
Some media narratives have worked to portray ICE agents as likely to intimidate or detain Americans. In response, Trump has stated that this strategy by Democrats appears to have backfired.
“I’m really proud of the ICE Patriots! They’ve been unfairly attacked by the radical Democrats for years. Now, they’re just doing their job at the airport—helping with baggage and keeping the area clean. They’re happy to be there!” Trump noted on True Social.
He went on to argue that Democrats’ continued criticism has inadvertently boosted support for ICE among the people. “Democrats are recycling a false image,” he observed, stating that their actions have actually made people favor ICE more. “They’re American patriots,” he reiterated.
Currently, Democrats are attempting to pressure Republicans into defunding ICE by stalling funding for DHS. Republicans, in turn, are placing the blame for staffing shortages and delays on Democratic interference.
ICE has now been dispatched to 14 airports in the U.S. to help alleviate some of the congestion. Border Czar Tom Homan also chimed in, stating, “If you see criminal activity, you should act like any law enforcement officer would.”
To wrap things up, Trump expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you, ICE, for a great job. America is so grateful!”
