Trump Considers Republican National Convention Ahead of Midterms
Former President Donald Trump has indicated he may organize a Republican national convention before the midterm elections, a decision he announced recently.
While he didn’t detail the location or specifics of the event, Trump shared various statistics he believes will favor Republicans this year. The GOP is working to maintain its control of both the House and Senate in 2026.
“The Republicans are really doing well. Millions have joined us in our effort to make America great again. We’ve seen victories across the board in the presidential election, and we believe we’ll continue to win in the upcoming midterms,” Trump said, referencing what he calls the True Society.
“We’re raising significantly more funds than the Democrats, and we’re eager to see America heal, rectify the issues brought about by the Biden administration, and thrive,” he continued.
Focus on Senate Seats
Historically, the party in power often struggles during midterms, typically losing around 25 seats.
Concerns Among Democrats
Trump’s mention of the national convention comes at a time when there’s a national debate over district redrawing. Texas recently enacted a congressional map that removes five Democratic seats, prompting a backlash from California, where Governor Gavin Newsom is attempting to design a map that cuts five Republican seats.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul, along with other Democratic leaders, is also engaged in this redistricting battle, which could alter dynamics leading up to 2026.
Trump pointed out that crime remains a critical issue in the upcoming election cycle, a theme he has been emphasizing to bolster support for his controversial calls for “federalization” in Washington, D.C.
“Republicans want to stop crime,” Trump proclaimed. “We’re against crime.”
He added, “Democrats seem to support crime,” suggesting a clear distinction between the two parties.
During a recent exchange with reporters, Trump celebrated his successes in D.C., stating, “If I were a Democrat, I’d be reaching out to leaders for assistance, asking, ‘President Trump, we need your help. Just look at what you accomplished in 12 days here in D.C.’”
“This hasn’t even officially started yet. It will be extremely safe, one of the safest places in the world,” he asserted.
This is an evolving story, so updates may follow.
