Trump criticizes 'average guy' George Clooney for frequently complaining about common sense in politics

Trump Critiques Clooney Amid New Year’s Comments

President Donald Trump has taken aim at George Clooney, labeling him “an ordinary guy who constantly complains about political common sense.” He further stated that Clooney isn’t much of a movie star and that his political views overshadowed his “few, totally mediocre movies.”

On what many considered a disappointing New Year’s Eve, Trump shared his thoughts on “Jay Kelly” star along with his wife, human rights attorney Amal Clooney. He referred to them as “two of the worst political prophets of all time” after they announced their new French citizenship.

“Good news! George and Amal Clooney, the worst political prophets of all time, are now officially French citizens,” Trump wrote. He pointed out France’s ongoing crime issues, attributing them to poor immigration policies, likening the situation to the administration of “Sleepy Joe Biden.”

He also recalled how Clooney distanced himself from former President Biden after the contentious debate with Trump in 2024. “Remember after that notorious debate, when Clooney dropped Biden during a fundraiser and ended up supporting Jamara (K!) who’s now running against some of the worst governors in the country, Tim Walz and Gavin Newcomb? They might lead Democrats into defeat down the line,” he expressed.

Trump concluded his remarks by criticizing Clooney’s film career, claiming that the actor receives more attention for his political commentary than his mediocre body of work. “Clooney was never a movie star, just an ordinary person complaining about political norms. Let’s Make America Great Again!”

When approached for a response, Clooney stated, “I completely agree with the current president. We need to make America great again, and we will start in November.”

This exchange follows Clooney’s criticism of CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, whom he accused of undermining CBS News. He argued that CBS and ABC should have offered stronger resistance rather than settling lawsuits with Trump, each network reportedly paying at least $16 million.

Clooney, having moved his family to France to escape Hollywood, expressed frustration with the lack of pushback from the networks. “If CBS and ABC had challenged these lawsuits and told them to ‘go away,’ we wouldn’t be in the state we are now,” he remarked.

These are undoubtedly “difficult times,” Clooney added. “They can lead to feelings of depression or anger. Yet, finding a positive way forward is crucial. Quitting isn’t an option; we’ve got to keep pushing ahead.”

In a recent interview, Clooney reflected on his past relationships with Trump, noting how political fame seemed to transform him over the years. “I used to know him well,” he said. “He would call and even helped me arrange a hospital visit for a hip surgeon. We would meet at clubs and restaurants. He was quite the go-getter. Well, at least he used to be.” Clooney concluded with, “Everything has changed.”
