Trump Criticizes Obama Over Iran Nuclear Deal
President Donald Trump, in a recent interview, accused former President Barack Obama of undermining U.S. security with the Iran nuclear deal, which he claims allowed Iran to advance its weapons program.
“Obama signed stupid deals that paid him billions of dollars. He thought he could bribe them,” Trump stated during his conversation with Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” while in Wisconsin.
This assertion came after Welker challenged Trump’s claims regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions, arguing that they are closer to developing weapons-grade uranium since the U.S. exited the 2015 agreement.
“They were developing it during the nuclear deal,” Trump shot back, almost incredulous. “Don’t you know that too?”
Trump’s Defense of Military Action
Trump specifically criticized Obama’s handling of Iran’s nuclear program, suggesting that the former president’s negotiations didn’t succeed in halting Iran’s nuclear progress.
“They got all this uranium during the Obama era, you know that, right?” he asserted. “That’s how they got there… They developed it during the Barack Hussein Obama era…”
Welker responded by mentioning that Iran escalated its development after the deal collapsed, before trying to divert the focus to the economy. But Trump interrupted, insisting that his military actions had averted a much worse scenario.
“If I hadn’t gone there with the B-2 bombers, they would have nuclear weapons by now,” he claimed. “Half the world could be wiped out.”
Earlier in the discussion, Trump defended his military stance despite previously campaigning against “endless wars.” He emphasized the necessity of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
“They’re going to blow up the world, they’re going to blow up the Middle East, they’re going to blow up Israel, they’re going to come here and blow up Europe,” he warned.
America First Approach
Trump characterized his foreign policy as aligned with his “America First” agenda, viewing Iran’s nuclear capabilities as a direct threat to the U.S.
“I’m serving the world, but I’m also serving our country,” Trump claimed, reiterating that it’s all about putting America first.
When pressed by Welker about his campaign promise of avoiding new wars, Trump responded, “First of all, I’m not guaranteeing there won’t be a war. Why did I create the world’s strongest army?”
He rejected comparisons to past conflicts like Vietnam and Iraq, stating that the situation in Iran is limited and nearing resolution.
“This is not an endless war,” he asserted. “We’ve been doing this for three months, and most of that has been in the form of a pretty good ceasefire.”
Ending the Interview on a Tense Note
Trump concluded his remarks on a contentious note after Welker pressed him on other topics, including allegations of election fraud and California’s voting processes.
“You are a one-sided, twisted network,” he snapped back at Welker. “I’m sorry. I’ve had enough. Let’s stop now. Thank you, darling. Have fun.”
Fox News reached out to Obama for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
