Trump Criticizes TIME Magazine Cover Photo

On Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump voiced his displeasure with a cover photo of him featured in TIME Magazine. He described the image as “absolutely terrible” and “super bad,” even though the attached article highlighted his recent diplomatic accomplishments.

Despite the criticism, many of Trump’s supporters appreciated his straightforwardness, praising his ability to express his opinions honestly. One user on social media remarked, “This is why we love him! He’s always himself, unlike other presidents. That picture IS terrible, and it’s disrespectful they chose it. Love that he called them out.”

The TIME cover shows Trump from a low-angle view, illuminated by bright sunlight, which some might say is less than flattering. His neck is prominently displayed, and the lighting casts his hair in a way that some may find unappealing.

The accompanying article, titled “His Triumph,” details Trump’s success in negotiating a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, which is considered a significant achievement in foreign policy. This agreement, reached during a summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, aims to resolve one of the most long-standing conflicts in modern Middle Eastern history. The first phase allows for all living Israeli hostages to return home and includes a temporary withdrawal of Israeli troops from parts of Gaza, along with plans for an international monitoring and reconstruction effort. Trump’s strategy involved working closely with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey to encourage cooperation from Hamas while simultaneously pressuring Israel to accept vital terms.

Even with this notable success and the positive coverage, Trump has continued to criticize the unwelcome photograph, questioning why the magazine would “purposefully” choose such an image. He stated on Truth Social, “It may be the worst photo of all time. They could have selected from a thousand better options, but they chose this one on purpose. It’s really bad — shot from below, terrible lighting, and it makes my hair look see-through. Disrespectful!”

He also pondered whether TIME, which is often perceived as having a left-leaning bias, deliberately opted for the unflattering image, despite acknowledging the article’s relatively positive tone—something he noted is not typical of what the magazine normally publishes about him.

A professional photographer commented that low-angle shots can distort features and exaggerate certain aspects, such as the neck or jawline. Reports from The Washington Post and People Magazine suggest that the image was selected through TIME’s standard editorial process, involving collaboration among the photo director, creative directors, and senior editors.
