Trump declares Wayne Gretzky a ‘free agent’ as Canada rift continues

After previously calling Wayne Gretzky “Governor of Canada,” President Donald Trump has declared the NHL legend a “free agent.”

Justin Trudeau announced his plans to step down as Canadian prime minister earlier this year, urging Gretzky to ask if he wants to be the country's “governor” after Trump called on Canada to become “the 51st state.”

Gretzky faces some criticism His fellow Canadians talk about his relationship with Trump.

But in Wednesday's Truth Social Post, Trump said his “friend” was “a little “low” about maintaining another country, rather than becoming the 51st and precious state of being a 51st state.

Therefore, “The Great One” is currently on the market.

“Wayne Gretzky is a great guy! They call him “great things.” He ran for all political offices in Canada and was able to win. Wayne is my friend and he wants to make me happy, so rather than becoming the precious and beautiful 51st state, Canada is a somewhat “low key” to having a much lower tax, a free and powerful military, no tariffs and a booming economy, rather than becoming the 51st state of treasured and beautiful,” Trump wrote Wednesday.

“His great wife Wayne and Janet love Canada. They should support Canada alone, and whatever else should make Canadian people and Governor Justin Trudeau happy. I make him a 'free agent' because he is the greatest Canadian of them. Because I don't want anyone in Canada to say anything wrong about him.

“He's not as good as being part of the 'good country of America', some of the greatest and most powerful countries in the world, but he's supporting Canada as is it! ”

While talking to reporters at Mar-A-Lago last month, Trump said Gretzky “hasn't been very interested” in becoming Canadian “governor” but “probably liked the nation.”
