President Trump on Thursday referred to the deadly shooting at Florida State University (FSU) as “bad,” yet he downplayed any expectations for changes to gun legislation in the U.S.
“Listen, I’m a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. I have been since the beginning. I stand by it. These incidents are tragic,” Trump stated to journalists in the Oval Office.
“However, no weapons discharge,” Trump added. “That’s likely a term that’s used too frequently. I can tell you it’s unfortunate. I’m hearing about it now.”
Trump mentioned that he is well-informed about the situation following the release of further details and intends to elaborate on the shooting later.
According to officials, at least two individuals have died and six others have been hospitalized following a shooting incident at Florida State University in Tallahassee. The suspect has been apprehended, and it is reported that the individual is an aide from the sheriff’s office, the son of Leon County, Florida.
Since his first term, Trump has consistently assured his followers that he would safeguard their Second Amendment rights. He has participated in numerous events for the National Rifle Association over the years.
In the aftermath of a school shooting in 2018, he convened lawmakers to discuss gun regulations, but Congress ultimately failed to enact any new laws.
