President Trump took him to social media on Saturday night to protect Marco Rubio and Elon Musk's relationship, calling the tension rumours “fake news” following reports of clashes at Thursday's explosive cabinet meeting.
“Eron and Marco have a great relationship,” Trump, 78. I wrote it in the Truth Social Post Saturday around 6pm.
“All other statements are fake news!!”
In an article Friday, The New York Times accused Rubio of refusing to cut staff at the Closure Corps cabinet meeting, claiming weeks of Doge made eye-opening cuts to federal officials and programs.
Rubio retreated and explained that 1,500 State Department employees had made an early retirement acquisition that should be considered a layoff, the paper argued.
Trump reportedly sat back with his arms crossed and quietly watched the enthusiastic exchange and eventually stepped in after a “unpleasant” time, the outlet reported.
The chief commander attempted to hold back the rumblings of Friday's fiery meeting, and at the same time accused NBC News reporters of asking about Musk and Rubio.
“There's no conflict. I was there – you're just a troublemaker,” Trump said after pausing reporters' questions about the reported conflict.
“And we're talking about the World Cup so you're not going to ask that question.”
The issue came after Trump signed an executive order that created the White House Task Force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in his oval office.
“Elon is getting along with Marco. They both do a great job. There's no conflict,” Trump strengthened.
