WASHINGTON – President Trump has directed the War Department to deploy “all necessary” troops to Portland, Oregon, aiming to ensure the safety of the city and protect immigration and customs enforcement personnel.
He also indicated that he is prepared to use “full power when necessary” in response to ongoing protests against the federal ICE detention facility, which have been escalating since June.
“Following a request from Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem, I am instructing War Secretary Pete Hegses to send all military support needed to safeguard the war-torn Portland,” Trump asserted. “I permit full power if needed.”
The president’s decision coincides with a series of recent attacks on ICE officers, prompting U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy to initiate stronger measures against those assaulting federal officials.
Bondy announced that the Department of Justice would be deploying agents to ICE facilities to enhance security.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force is looking into “domestic terrorism” and advocating for the most severe charges against those involved in these incidents.
Bondy expressed her concern over the violence directed at ICE officers, stating, “The Department of Justice cannot tolerate such lawlessness. The rule of law must prevail.”
