Trump Denies 2028 Vice Presidential Run
President Donald Trump has rejected rumors about a potential vice presidential bid in 2028, commenting to reporters aboard Air Force One that the Republican Party has a “great” candidate in mind. This conversation took place on a Sunday while he dismissed queries regarding his interest in such a role.
During the dialogue, Trump mentioned Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as strong potential successors. He also took a jab at the Democratic nominee, labeling them as having a “low IQ.”
“We have great people. I don’t need to list them all, but one of them is right here. There’s JD. The vice president is terrific. And I think Marco is quite impressive too. I’m not sure if anyone would challenge them. If they form a group, well, I believe they’d be unstoppable,” Trump stated.
He further criticized figures like Jasmine Crockett and AOC, suggesting they do not possess strong intellect, joking about the inadequacy of their answers in a hypothetical IQ test setting. “Let AOC compete against Trump. Let Jasmine see how she stacks up,” he added.
Rubio Downplays 2028 Speculations
When pressed about the possibility of Trump running for vice president, Trump remarked, “I’m open to the idea,” but dismissed it as “too cute.” He made a point about how challenging an IQ test could be, especially as the questions get progressively harder.
“I wonder if it’s legal or holds merit,” a reporter queried regarding the vice presidential candidacy. Trump clarified, “You could technically do that, but it’s not something I’d pursue. I think it’s too cute.”
These comments came amidst Trump’s five-day tour in Asia, where he is meeting various world leaders. He plans to visit Japan next and is set to meet with the newly elected Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, who notably is Japan’s first female prime minister.
