Trump dismisses the notion of capturing Putin suggested by Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.

President Trump has responded to Ukrainian President Zelensky’s proposal that the U.S. might detain Russian President Putin, which Zelensky mentioned in light of U.S. actions against Venezuelan leader Maduro. Trump rejected the idea but expressed his frustration over the ongoing war and the challenges in resolving it. He often states on the campaign trail that he could bring about a resolution on his first day in office, yet, despite dialogues between Zelensky and Putin, a solution remains elusive.

“I don’t think that’s necessary,” Trump stated when asked about Zelensky’s suggestion during a gathering with U.S. oil executives at the White House.

Trump commented on his relationship with Putin, saying, “I’ve always had a great relationship with him. I’m very disappointed.” He remarked on the war’s toll, notably on Russian soldiers, claiming that, in the last month alone, around 31,000 people have died, with a significant number being Russian military personnel. He noted the strain on Russia’s economy during this conflict.

“It will be resolved eventually,” Trump added, lamenting the loss of life. He mentioned the unfortunate figures, noting the staggering numbers of Russian soldiers who have died in recent months.

Additionally, Trump critiqued the Biden administration for sending substantial financial aid to Ukraine, suggesting that the U.S. could recover these costs through a deal involving rare earth minerals and ongoing assistance. He stressed that the U.S. hasn’t incurred losses from the conflict, indicating profitability through arms sales to NATO allies and referencing NATO’s decision to increase defense spending by 2035.

“We’re not losing money. We’re making a lot of money,” he asserted.

Zelensky’s remarks came after Russia announced the launch of a new nuclear-capable hypersonic missile amidst a major assault on Ukraine, which Ukraine disputed. Ukrainian officials reported that this attack involved a multitude of drones and missiles targeting energy and civilian infrastructure, resulting in at least four fatalities.

Zelensky urged the U.S. and the international community to take action against Russia, stressing that the attacks on civilians should not go unpunished.
