Trump Envoy Secures Release Of American Teacher Marc Fogel By Russia

The White House has announced that Mark Vogel, a teacher at an American school, who was sentenced to 14 years in a Russian prison, is now freed.

On Tuesday, White House national security adviser Mike Waltz said in a statement that Fogel, a US teacher who was arrested in Russia and sentenced to 14 years there, is now back in the US. Ta.

“Today, President Donald J. Trump and his special envoy Steve Witkov will announce that Witkov will be leaving Russia's airspace along with Mark Vogel, an American detained in Russia. You can,” Waltz said. “President Trump, Steve Witkov and his advisor negotiated as a sincere show from the Russians as a sign of moving in the right direction to end the brutal and terrible war in Ukraine.”

Fogel was a teacher at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, and many ambassadors at the US Embassy brought their children to study.

He was arrested in August 2021 after landing at Moscow Airport after being accused of trying to bring in 11 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of hash oil after being found in a suitcase.

He was later sentenced to 14 years in prison for drugs smuggling allegations that his family was manufactured, and the United States continued to encourage his humanitarian release.

Vogel's relative said Associated Press They were beyond “thank you, relieved, overwhelmed” that he had been home.

“This has been the darkest and most painful period of our lives, but today we are beginning to heal,” the family said in a statement. “For the first time in years, our family is looking forward to the future with hope.”
