Trump Dismisses AI Doomsday Warnings Ahead of Meeting with Xi

President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that he is forming an “AI Force” and intends to appoint an artificial intelligence czar as part of his administration’s efforts to boost AI development in the U.S.

In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that his administration would resist any initiatives aimed at restricting the fast-evolving technology, while also utilizing current criminal and civil justice frameworks to address potential issues.

“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” the post declared. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!”

Some Republican lawmakers have expressed skepticism about the tech industry’s ominous AI warnings, suggesting there may be ulterior motives at play.

In his post, Trump criticized calls for greater government oversight of the AI sector, asserting that such restrictions could compromise the U.S.’s competitive edge against China. He compared the backlash against AI and data centers to other political controversies and pointed out that opposition to data centers had not been particularly effective.

He mentioned that the government would also actively seek out problems, indicating that current laws could help manage any issues arising from AI technology.

Trump expressed confidence, likening the establishment of the AI Force to the successful Space Force initiative he launched during his first term. He said, “To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI ‘Czar’ — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!” However, he did not provide specifics about who might lead this effort or how it would be structured.

During Trump’s address, he speculated that artificial intelligence could one day contribute to as much as 25% of the U.S. gross domestic product, though he did not offer a source for this figure. “AI is the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful,” he stated. He added, “We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!”

In a separate post, Trump invited people to weigh in on possible new names for AI, suggesting alternatives like Superior Intelligence (SI) or Extreme Intelligence (EI) instead of the traditional term. He asked for opinions on which name would best describe this growing phenomenon, framing it as a poll for his followers to participate in.
