Trump Endorses Ken Paxton for Texas Senate
Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican Senate race, labeling him a committed advocate for an America First agenda. Trump didn’t hold back criticism for incumbent Senator John Cornyn, whom he accused of being slow to back his 2024 presidential bid.
In a detailed statement on Truth in Society, Trump described Paxton as “a highly respected Texas attorney general” and a loyal supporter of both him and the MAGA movement. He emphasized that Paxton previously garnered “6.4 million votes in 2024,” a record for the state, and expressed confidence in Paxton’s abilities, stating, “I know Ken well and have seen him tested at the highest and most difficult levels. And he is a winner!”
Trump highlighted Paxton’s endorsement of policies like abolishing the filibuster and discussed the American Rescue Act, pointing out that while it polls well, its passage seems unlikely. He warned that Democrats would scrap the filibuster if they regain power, which could potentially lead to significant changes in the Supreme Court.
The former president went on to note his view that the nation is thriving, saying, “Two years ago, our country died. Now we are the ‘hottest’ country anywhere in the world, and I want to keep it that way.” He claimed that Paxton would assist in further enhancing the nation’s strength.
Trump called Paxton “a true MAGA warrior” who has always stood by Texas and expects he will continue to serve effectively in the Senate. He asserted that Paxton’s mission would include driving economic growth, reducing taxes, and securing the nation’s borders. Trump remarked critically about Cornyn, labeling him a good man while noting that he “did not support me during tough times.”
Trump argued that Cornyn was late in endorsing him during his campaigns, which he framed as historic victories. He reflected on the achievements of his term as creating an “America’s Golden Age,” contrasted with what he termed the previous administration’s failures.
He mentioned Paxton’s struggles with perceived injustices but praised him as a “fighter” who understands the need for loyalty to crucial causes. Trump also condemned the Biden administration’s border policies, stating that they have allowed criminals to flow into Texas unchecked. He vowed, “I will not allow those dark and dangerous days to return!”
Wrapping up his endorsement, Trump expressed his full support for Paxton’s campaign, saying, “We’ve already made America great again, and now we want to make this country better than ever.” Paxton, responding to Trump’s backing, expressed deep gratitude and emphasized his commitment to upholding Trump’s policies in the Senate.
The endorsement comes as Paxton makes a case for leadership change in Texas. He pointed out during an interview that Cornyn has been in office since the 1980s and argued it’s time for new representation. Paxton mentioned that when he asks audiences about Cornyn’s accomplishments, they often have nothing to say.
He asserted that Texas needs a senator who fights for their interests, as he believes Cornyn has aligned too closely with the Washington establishment and hasn’t met the expectations of Texans. Paxton also remarked critically on Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, suggesting he has radical views that don’t resonate with the state’s values.
The upcoming runoff on May 26 will determine who faces Talarico in November. Talarico, hailed by some as a talented individual, has made headlines for his progressive stances, including calls for dismantling systemic racism and other policies that Paxton argues are misaligned with Texas priorities.
