Trump Guilty Verdict ‘Validation of the American Judicial System’

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the conviction of former President Donald Trump in New York’s business documents trial was “a vindication of the American system of justice.”

Guest host Peter Alexander said, “I want to start by asking about this historic ruling. President Biden said in his speech on Friday that it would be irresponsible to say the ruling was unjust just because you don’t like it. Eight years after the ruling, we question the validity of the legal theory, the untested legal theory on which the lawsuit was brought. Will this lawsuit be brought against anyone other than former President Trump?”

“Absolutely,” Jeffries said. The People vs. Trump This was a vindication of the American judicial system. Donald Trump was entitled to a presumption of innocence, and he received it. Donald Trump was entitled to a jury of his peers, and he received it. Donald Trump was entitled to a vigorous defense, and he received it. Twelve jurors, twelve American citizens, after a five-week trial, evaluated the facts, the evidence, and the law and unanimously decided to find Donald Trump guilty of 34 felony counts.”

He added: “This is an affirmation of the American justice system. This is America. This is not a system run by a monarch or a king or a dictator. We are a democracy, and in a democracy, no one is above the law.”
