Trump Jokes About Running for President of Venezuela
Recently, Donald Trump playfully suggested the idea of running for the presidency in Venezuela, stating he believes he has greater support in the polls than any other politician in that country.
During a press conference on a Monday, where he was discussing the rescue of an Air Force officer missing after his jet was shot down in Iran, Trump made these comments. “The Venezuelan people, I think, would back me more than they ever have any leader in Venezuela. After everything calms down, I could see myself in Venezuela,” he remarked. He expressed confidence in his language-learning abilities, saying, “I’ll pick up Spanish quickly. It shouldn’t take long.” He added that he was content with the current president-elect.
While mentioning Venezuela several times, Trump compared the Easter weekend rescue operation with the U.S. capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He implied that resolving the situation in Iran might happen just as quickly as the conflict with Venezuela, which he claimed was over in mere minutes. He also noted that the U.S. is currently extracting significant quantities of oil from Venezuela.
At a recent Cabinet meeting, he humorously mentioned Delcy Rodriguez, who assumed the presidency after Maduro’s arrest, saying she “may run” for president herself. Trump confidently declared that he is already the most popular figure in the polls regarding Venezuela, potentially hinting at a future candidacy there.
Trump referred to the idea of running as a “great option” and complimented Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his fluency in Spanish, acknowledging that he hasn’t prioritized learning the language. He remarked, “He has a leg up, considering I haven’t invested the time,” but added that he didn’t plan to devote time to language learning.
