Trump Offers National Guard Help to Baltimore Amid Crime Concerns
Maryland Governor Wes Moore indicated he would welcome assistance from former President Donald Trump, stating that he could deploy the National Guard to Baltimore to help address crime swiftly.
Moore had previously extended an invitation for Trump to join a public safety event scheduled for September 21 in a city struggling with violence and crime. This gathering aims to “explore effective public safety strategies,” according to a letter he sent.
In response, Trump expressed a preference for Moore to tackle the criminal situation in Baltimore before he arrives for the walk, sharing his thoughts in a post on Truth Social. He criticized Moore’s track record on crime, suggesting that if the numbers reflected reality, they could be worse than reported.
Trump didn’t hold back when voicing his dissatisfaction with the tone of Moore’s invitation. He stated, “If Wes Moore needs help, much like he did in L.A., I’ll send in the ‘army’ from nearby D.C. to clear up the crime immediately,” pointing out that Baltimore ranks among the highest for crime and murder rates in the U.S.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s mayor described Trump’s plans for deploying the National Guard as “uncoordinated and meaningless.” Earlier this month, Trump had also announced an initiative aimed at making D.C. “safer and more beautiful,” in an effort to tackle crime and the rising homelessness in the capital.
Trump has consistently labeled Washington, D.C. as “one of the most dangerous cities in the world,” and has supported the presence of federal agents and National Guard members in patrolling the streets to mitigate crime.
Recently, he mentioned deliberations regarding sending the National Guard to Chicago, referring to the city as a “disturbance.” He added that his administration would likely manage that situation “the next time,” suggesting it wouldn’t be too challenging. However, further specifics concerning a potential Chicago operation were not disclosed.
