Trump Reverses DHS Moratorium on ICE Vehicle Stops
Following a recent announcement from the Department of Homeland Security regarding a halt on ICE vehicle stops, President Donald Trump has instructed the department to reconsider its decision. He referred to these stops as “one of ICE’s most important and effective crime-fighting tools.”
In a social media post, President Trump expressed his concern, stating, “We cannot abandon one of ICE’s most important and effective crime-fighting tools: traffic stops.” He argued that the changes proposed by DHS would have direct implications for criminal activity.
“The Radical Left Democrats want this to happen, but it won’t happen on my watch,” he asserted. Trump then addressed federal employees, urging ICE to “act thoughtfully, fairly and wisely,” and to continue their essential work.
Policy Shift for ICE Vehicle Stops
The White House confirmed that President Trump has overturned the recent vehicle stoppage directive. This development follows reports from multiple ICE officials indicating that agents had been instructed nationwide to pause most vehicle stops, marking a significant shift in the agency’s operational protocols.
ICE agents were told to refrain from most stops, except in cases involving serious or violent offenders. The suspension aimed to remain in place until DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin approves new training for field personnel.
This decision for a pause comes in the wake of two recent incidents where ICE agents were involved in vehicle stops that resulted in fatalities in Maine and Texas.
One ICE official commented to Fox News that while the change was unfortunate, it seemed necessary given the circumstances.
Trump’s Defense of ICE Operations
Despite the administration’s stance, President Trump remains firm in his support for ICE personnel. He remarked, “The men and women of ICE are doing a great job,” and noted that crime rates in America are down significantly, some figures reportedly being the lowest in decades.
He criticized former President Joe Biden, labeling him “Sleepy Joe Biden,” claiming he allowed millions into the country without proper vetting, many of whom he described as criminals.
In response to these developments, Trump emphasized the need for a strong approach in addressing these issues, asserting, “we must be strong, tough and smart.”
Continuing Support for ICE
President Trump concluded his address to ICE agents by encouraging them to keep sharing crime statistics, affirming, “You are loved and respected in America.” This statement was subsequently echoed by the Department of Homeland Security.
