Report: Trump and Putin Open to Meetings

President Donald Trump is reportedly planning an in-person meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week. This follows communications between Trump and Ukrainian President Voldy Maselensky that are set to take place soon after.

This news comes on the heels of a productive meeting between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin, which was described as “very productive.”

Trump mentioned he would meet with both Putin and Zelensky “if necessary” to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict. In a recent update, he expressed optimism about the situation, stating that much progress has been made, and he’s in touch with several European allies. There seems to be a consensus that the war needs to come to an end, and efforts will be focused on that in the coming days.

During discussions, Putin indicated a desire to meet Trump, and White House press chief Caroline Levitt conveyed that the Russians have communicated their interest. Levitt emphasized that Trump is open to meeting with both leaders, with a hope that the war will soon conclude.

Ukrainian President Zelensky confirmed he had conversations with Trump and other European leaders, reinforcing a joint position on the necessity of ending the war honestly. He highlighted Ukraine’s commitment to maintaining its independence and the importance of achieving a lasting peace.

Trump has indicated his willingness to support an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Previously, he had signaled intentions to impose strict tariffs on Russia if there wasn’t a peace agreement signed by Putin and Zelensky. Recently, he mentioned growing trade tensions and suggested a potential tariff threat amid negotiations involving India and China.

As the situation progresses, Trump acknowledged that forthcoming meetings will be crucial. “We’ll see what happens in the next fairly short period,” he remarked, implying that significant developments might be on the horizon.
