Elon Musk is Ready to Reengage in Politics
Recently, tech billionaire Elon Musk has been drifting back into the political scene, particularly around former President Donald Trump’s faction, after a public spat in June 2025. It seems their relationship has thawed, as Trump mentioned Musk specifically over the weekend. Responding to questions about leveraging Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, to aid internet access in Iran amid protests against Ayatollah Khamenei, Trump expressed optimism. He remarked, “If we can do that, we might spread the Internet. We might talk to Elon. He’s quite skilled in areas like that.” He added he would reach out to Musk post-press conference.
Following months of tension marked by bickering, the bond between Trump and Musk appears to be improving. On January 4, Trump praised Musk, saying, “Elon is great. Eighty percent of the time, he’s a super genius, and twenty percent, he makes mistakes. But he’s a good guy.” This was after the two shared what Musk described as a “lovely dinner” at Mar-a-Lago.
Previously, media attention highlighted their close collaboration, especially when Musk took on a role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), set up by Trump to tackle inefficiencies in the government. Trump expressed admiration for Musk during those early days, describing him as one of the greatest innovators. But tension arose when Musk publicly criticized a major tax and spending bill related to Trump’s policies, referring to it as “disgusting.” Musk went as far as suggesting it would lead to the largest debt ceiling hike ever.
Trump voiced his disappointment in Musk’s criticisms but noted that their relationship started to shift after discussions about repealing electric vehicle mandates impacting Tesla. The two cooled off around June, yet there have been signs of reconciliation, particularly after Musk praised Trump’s actions in Israel later that summer.
Their interactions began to suggest a rekindling when they were seen conversing closely at a memorial service in September 2025. Then, in November 2025, during a White House dinner with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Musk shared his sentiments, declaring, “I like Elon very much,” but remained uncertain about Musk’s position within his circle post-scandal.
