President Trump Meets Yankees Before 9/11 Game
President Donald Trump made a visit to the New York Yankees’ locker room before their game against the Detroit Tigers, marking the 9/11 anniversary.
He spent about half an hour with the players, expressing admiration for the Steinbrenner family, who own the team. Trump described them as a “great family.”
“It’s a great family,” he mentioned. “Randy [Levine, the team president] is wonderful. You’ll win. George used to win every time I was there. I don’t know why, but it happened. It was tough sitting through those games, but we always came out on top. You guys will too. Can you make it to the playoffs? I think you can. Let’s start tonight, and you’ll do well.”
Trump also recalled an anecdote about the Boston Red Sox visiting the Oval Office, saying they got lucky winning 15 games straight. “Just want to wish you all good luck. You are great players, and I know every one of you,” he added.
After his motivational speech, Trump shook hands with each team member.
Once he arrived in his suite to watch the game just before 7 p.m., he was welcomed with loud cheers and chants of “U-S-A” from fans throughout the stadium.
The Yankees ended up winning the game 9-3 against the Tigers. This was Trump’s first attendance at a Major League Baseball game since the 2021 World Series.
