Trump names several picks for State Department roles

President-elect Trump on Sunday nominated several candidates for top State Department officials.

In several posts on Truth Social, Trump shared his new position working for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), his nominee for secretary of state.

Trump announced that Michael Anton will become the department's director of policy planning.

“Michael served me faithfully and effectively on the National Security Council during my first term.” Trump posted. “He has an extensive background in government, the private sector and academia.”

Trump said Anton had served the country for the past eight years and “illustrated what an America First foreign policy truly means.”

Mr. Anton served as a senior national security official in the first Trump administration and was later appointed to the National Council on Education and Science.

Trump too nominated Christopher Landau becomes Deputy Secretary of State. He said he would work closely with Rubio if confirmed by the Senate.

“Chris served as my ambassador to Mexico and worked tirelessly with our team to reduce illegal immigration to historic lows,” he said. “He was also one of our nation's great lawyers, clerking for both Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas on the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Landau served as U.S. ambassador to Mexico from 2019 to 2021.

“My father was a career diplomat and my mother was the spouse of a distinguished diplomat, so I just wish my parents were still alive to hear this news,” Landau said. “This nomination honors them for teaching me the best possible meaning of what it means to be a diplomat and an American.”

Michael Needham has been chosen as President Trump's State Department advisor.

“Mike served Sen. Marco Rubio competently for many years and is a key leader in the America First movement.” Trump wrote. “He has been on the front lines of the fight for America's forgotten men and women for nearly 20 years and will do an outstanding job at State University.”
