US-Iran Relations Tension
During a press briefing on Tuesday, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt emphasized that President Donald Trump’s preferred method of addressing issues with Iran is always “diplomacy.” However, she added that the United States is ready to use military force if the situation demands it.
This statement followed a post made by Trump on Truth Social, where he warned that it would be a “very bad day” for Iran if they fail to come to an agreement regarding their nuclear program. Levitt reiterated that while diplomacy is the primary approach, Trump has shown willingness to consider stronger actions if necessary.
“President Trump’s first choice is always diplomacy, but, as he has demonstrated, he is ready to take lethal measures if needed. Ultimately, he will decide what to do,” Levitt stated. She also criticized media reports claiming to predict Trump’s decisions about Iran, asserting that those relying on anonymous sources have no real insight into his mindset.
In recent discussions, Trump mentioned he is “considering” a limited military strike to pressure Iran’s leadership into a deal concerning their nuclear ambitions. Meanwhile, U.S. military presence in the Middle East has been bolstered, with the deployment of the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford and its strike group, along with the USS Abraham Lincoln and three guided missile destroyers already stationed in the region.
Trump expressed concern over the media narrative surrounding potential conflict with Iran, stating, “Everything that’s been written about a possible war with Iran is inaccurate and intentionally misleading. I prefer negotiations over conflict, but if a deal isn’t reached, it will be a very unfortunate day for that nation and its admirable people.”
