President Trump Honors Fallen Service Members at Dover Air Force Base

On March 18, 2026, President Donald Trump traveled to Dover Air Force Base to commemorate six U.S. service members who lost their lives during Operation Epic Fury against Iran.

Trump stood solemnly on the tarmac, showing national respect alongside Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Kaine.

This ceremony recognized the heroic crew of the KC-135 Stratotanker who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country during the operation’s initial phase.

According to reports, the six airmen died on March 12. The U.S. Central Command has indicated that no enemy or friendly artillery was involved in the crash of the refueling aircraft in western Iraq. The names of the fallen were made public by the Pentagon on Saturday.

As noted by the Associated Press, the individuals behind the uniforms had vibrant lives. For instance, Klinner was survived by his wife and young children, while Pruitt was remembered as a “radiant” personality by her husband. Retired Lt. Col. Ernesto Nisperos described Savino as a trusted mentor. Mr. Koval’s wife spoke fondly of him as a generous problem-solver, and the family of Mr. Angst highlighted his deep love for others.

Interestingly, Sen. Jon Husted shared personal insights about Simmons, mentioning his enthusiasm for fitness and a close relationship with his grandmother.

“Everyone on that plane was carrying a weight that most Americans will never see, and they carried it with a level of professionalism, courage, and quiet excellence that deserves recognition,” Nisperos remarked.

This ceremony marked the third dignified transfer since Operation Epic Fury commenced and Trump’s second attendance at such a somber occasion. He had previously been present on March 7 to honor soldiers who perished in a drone strike in Kuwait.

The operation has now claimed 13 U.S. military lives, with six killed in an Iranian drone strike and another injured in a missile and drone attack in Saudi Arabia. A CENTCOM representative also confirmed that around 200 U.S. personnel have sustained injuries, mostly minor, since hostilities began.
