Trump to Restore Original Pentagon Name
President Donald Trump plans to bring back the original name of the Pentagon.
On Friday, he is expected to sign an executive order for this change. Alongside this decision, the order includes naming Pete Hegseth as the war secretary.
“It’s about time we label our actions as what they are: endless wars,” he stated. “Maybe this will finally bring an end to the cycle.”
The executive order also seeks to ensure these changes are lasting by instructing Hegseth to outline legislative and enforcement measures. Additionally, updates for the public-facing website and the Pentagon office signage are in the works, according to officials.
The title “War Bureau” was in use by U.S. military agencies until 1949.
Hegseth remarked, “We triumphed in World War I and World War II. We’ve succeeded with the War Division and the War Bureau, not just the War Division.” He added, “As the president emphasized, our role isn’t just about defense; we’re addressing crimes.”
Trump mentioned to reporters last week that a name change was forthcoming. “We’re moving ahead with this,” he asserted. “I’m confident Congress will support us, though I doubt it will be necessary.”
Glenbeck, co-founder of Blaze Media, responded to Trump’s initiative. He suggested renaming the Department of Defense to the War Division would serve as a reminder of the implications of funding military operations—“the reality of war, the destruction, and the loss we face.”
