On October 3, 2025, President Donald Trump sanctioned the deployment of 300 National Guard members in Chicago. This decision comes as a response to escalating violence and disturbances linked to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

The situation intensified when ICE agents shot an armed woman who allegedly drove her vehicle into a federal immigration official’s car. Abigail Jackson, a spokesperson for the White House, confirmed that the deployment hinges on the ongoing unrest and attacks against federal personnel.

Jackson remarked, “With ongoing violence, local leaders like Illinois Governor JB Pritzker haven’t taken appropriate action. Their goal is to create a war-like environment to justify sending more troops,” he stated.
