Trump’s Upcoming Visit to Israel Following Ceasefire Agreement

President Donald Trump is set to arrive in Israel on Monday after successfully negotiating a ceasefire and a hostage exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.

Upon his morning arrival, he is anticipated to receive a formal welcome. According to Israeli officials, the visit will be brief, with plans for Trump to speak to the Knesset and meet some of the freed hostages before leaving.

His schedule is tight, limited in part because this trip coincides with the Jewish holiday “Simchat Torah,” which begins on Monday evening.

Although Trump was invited to address the gathering at Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square, he will not be able to attend due to security concerns and time limitations.

This visit follows Trump’s announcement that Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire along with the initial phase of a hostage release plan. Under this arrangement, Israel will pull back its forces from agreed positions in Gaza and start releasing hostages within three days, while agreeing to release around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in return.

The Israeli Defense Forces reported that by noon on Friday, the evacuation would be completed, placing the onus on Hamas to release the hostages by noon on Monday.

A Palestinian in Rafah expressed appreciation for Trump’s involvement, stating, “The genocide against the Palestinian people has stopped.”

“We are always responding moment to moment. Honestly, every year feels like a decade in Palestinian history,” a local added.

Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharen Haskell acknowledged that Trump’s efforts and the hostage release deal have created an opportunity for societal healing in Israel.

“We know that our hostages – our families, daughters, sons, cousins, husbands, grandparents – will be returned to the loving arms of their families and buried with respect here in Israel. I can’t explain how happy today is for us,” Haskell remarked.

“I think once everyone returns home in the coming days, the Israeli people will begin the healing process,” she continued, noting that it has been challenging to start the healing without the return of the hostages.

However, Haskell cautioned that peace in the region remains precarious since the next phase of the peace plan has yet to be finalized.

“The big question is how much pressure Qatar and Turkey will put on Hamas,” she noted. “Hamas has only agreed to the first phase of the plan, so it remains quite vulnerable.”
