WASHINGTON – On Friday, President Donald Trump voiced his support for the Supreme Court’s significant decision to limit the misuse of national injunctions issued by federal district judges.
Trump spoke at a press conference shortly after the ruling, which came as lower court judges often employed national injunctions to block aspects of his agenda.
“It’s a substantial decision, really an impressive one, and we’re quite happy about it,” Trump remarked.
“This morning, the Supreme Court delivered a major win for the rule of law, aiming to curb the overuse of national injunctions that disrupt the constitution, the separation of powers, and the proper operation of the administrative branch,” he continued.
According to Trump, progressive district judges are attempting to deny Americans the policies they have endorsed.
“I was elected with a historic mandate, yet in recent times, I’ve observed several radical-left judges trying to undermine the legitimate power of the presidency, preventing Americans from accessing the policies they overwhelmingly voted for,” he stated during the press briefing.
“This represents a serious threat to democracy, as these judges are not only adjudicating specific cases, but they are also trying to craft national law,” he added.
Progressive groups and attorneys frequently targeted jurisdictions where judges were predisposed to oppose Trump’s policies, using them to impose national injunctions against his initiatives.
“Essentially, this means that if any of the nearly 700 federal judges do not align with the policy of an elected U.S. president, they have the authority to halt that policy or at least delay its implementation for years, tying it up in the court system,” Trump explained.
“It’s an egregious abuse of power that has been unprecedented in recent decades, with more national injunctions issued in just a few years than throughout the entire 20th century,” he asserted.
Trump commended Justice Amy Coney Barrett for her well-articulated majority opinion, and he also praised Justices John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, and Brett Kavanaugh for their support in the 6-3 ruling.
“This ruling allows us to accelerate the implementation of various policies that have been wrongly blocked nationwide,” Trump noted, referencing the birthright citizenship case as a particular example.
