Trump proposes a plan that lets farmers support illegal immigrant workers at risk of deportation.

The Trump administration intends to roll out a process aimed at protecting hardworking, law-abiding immigrant farm workers in Iowa who may be at risk of deportation.

This announcement was made by President Donald Trump during an event at the Iowa Fairgrounds on Thursday evening, which also marked the start of a year-long celebration for the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Trump mentioned that the new plan will be developed alongside the Department of Homeland Security, with initial legal drafts being prepared in Iowa as he spoke.

“You know, they’ve put in years of effort, and we’re going to do something about this,” Trump told the audience. “If farmers empahsize how vital these workers are, it’s very emotional for them. They really value the hard work, and the farmers often feel very strongly about this.” He implied that if farmers advocate for these workers, they would have a platform to explain their importance.

“I don’t want to enforce border security in a way that removes all our workers from the fields,” Trump added.

Iowa is recognized as the second-largest agricultural exporter in the United States, according to the U.S. Trade Representative.

While introducing the new immigration strategy, Trump recalled a story from his past about an immigrant who worked on a farm for 15 years. “It’s quite cruel when workers are disregarded,” he stated.

“We can’t allow that,” Trump remarked, emphasizing partnerships with farmers and the hospitality sector.

Earlier in the week, Trump had hinted at a potential immigration exemption not only for agricultural workers but also for individuals in the hospitality industry.

During the unveiling of these immigration plans at the Iowa event, Trump anticipates pushback from “serious radical right people” within the GOP, questioning whether they truly “understand” the situation.

Critics have started to voice their concerns ever since the proposal was mentioned earlier this week.

Trump indicated that this initiative “holds” farmers accountable for any challenges that may arise. “If farmers don’t step up, we’ll remove them. We’ll keep the illegal workers but send the farmers packing,” he remarked. “So, get ready, farmers, I’m serious.”
