Trump Highlights Recovery of Injured National Guard Member
On Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump shared encouraging updates about West Virginia National Guard Sgt. Andrew Wolf, who suffered severe injuries in a shooting incident in Washington, D.C., just before Thanksgiving. During an event in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, Trump expressed optimism about Wolf’s recovery.
The president mentioned he has kept in touch with Wolf’s family following the tragic event that resulted in the death of 20-year-old National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom. He noted that Wolf’s parents maintained strong belief in their son’s survival, even when doctors conveyed grim probabilities. “The night he was hit so hard,” Trump recounted, “I spoke to his mother in the hospital, and she said he was going to be okay.” Trump was visibly moved by her confidence, adding, “I mean, she just believed it.”
He also reflected on the emotional toll on Wolf’s family. “The father looks devastated,” he remarked, acknowledging the weight of their grief. However, Trump said he was struck by Wolf’s mother’s steadfast assurance, expressing how remarkable it was to witness her hopefulness.
Trump continued to provide details about Wolf’s medical progress. “Just the other day, his mother said, ‘We’re all praying, and he moved his finger,'” he relayed, excitement in his voice. “Then today, I heard he got out of bed. Can you believe it? He woke up!” The president added that while Wolf wasn’t able to speak just yet, the medical team’s efforts were incredible.
“The care he received at the hospital is amazing,” Trump said, praising the work of the doctors and military personnel involved.
Wolf, 24, was attacked on November 26 in downtown Washington, while Beckstrom tragically did not survive her injuries. The authorities have charged 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Rakanwar in connection with the shooting, facing serious charges including first-degree murder.
Despite the tragedy, there’s a glimmer of hope with Wolf’s ongoing recovery. The White House has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
