Trump quips about his chances of reaching heaven: 'I'm not the ideal candidate'

Trump Comments on Heaven at National Prayer Breakfast

During the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, former President Donald Trump shared some lighthearted thoughts about the possibility of going to heaven.

In the past, Trump has humorously suggested he wasn’t sure about his eternal future. Recently, he commented that even though he might not be “the perfect candidate,” he believes he would be welcomed into heaven.

“I don’t want to get in trouble!” he joked, recalling his previous assertion: “I said, ‘I’ll never go to heaven. I don’t think I deserve it.’ I don’t think there’s anything I can do. But all these good things I’m doing, including for religion… I’m not qualified. I’m not going to heaven.”

He added, “I was just having fun. I think I should probably pass. I mean, I’m not the perfect candidate, but I’ve done a lot of good things for the perfect person, that’s for sure.”

Trump emphasized the importance of religion in America, declaring a desire to “rededicate” the country to the faith espoused by the Founding Fathers. He received a standing ovation when he stated, “We will rededicate America as one nation under God.”

“That’s what I mean by spirit. It’s really incredible to see it. I see it a lot. I haven’t seen anything like it in a year,” he expressed.

He underscored that a nation’s success isn’t solely determined by its politics but also by the faith of its people, attributing his administration’s accomplishments to divine influence. “Maybe that’s part of why we’re doing so well. There’s a great spirit… and that includes religion. I’ve always maintained, ‘You can’t have a great country without religion.’ You have to believe in something.”

Looking upwards, he added, “So I do it because I’m afraid not to! Because I don’t want to get into trouble!”
