Trump Ran for President as Revenge After NFL Owners Blocked His Bid to Buy Bills

There are many theories as to why President-elect Trump left a successful reality show and a relatively easy life to enter politics. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has no theory. He believes the answer is to return to the NFL.

In an interview with Bill Maher club random Smith said on a podcast earlier this week that Trump was told he would run for president if the NFL blocked his 2014 purchase of the Buffalo Bills.

“He called me in 2014,” Smith said. said Maher. “This is a true story…He said, 'Stephen A., I'm buying the Buffalo Bills.'” The price was $1.4 billion. He had about $1.1 billion. He was told he wasn't going to be on the team.

“He said, 'Stephen A., if these assholes are going to get in my way' — he was talking about NFL owners — 'If these assholes are going to get in my way, If you do, I'll take them all back.'' That's what he said!

President Trump ultimately did not purchase the bill, and the Pegula family did.

The president-elect touched on the topic on an episode of. Boys and Bassin months ago.

“I don't think it was a very serious run, but I gave them a $1 billion guarantee, so it's always serious, right?” Trump explained.

If Trump had bought the Bills, he wouldn't have become the owner of his first professional football team. The New York billionaire was majority owner of the USFL's New Jersey Generals in the 1980s.

He was also involved in acquisition plans for the then-Baltimore Colts, New England Patriots, and Dallas Cowboys.
