Trump Addresses Military Pay Amid Government Shutdown
President Donald Trump announced that his administration has found funds to ensure military personnel get paid, despite the ongoing government shutdown.
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump criticized Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party for not supporting a continuing resolution to maintain government funding at previously agreed amounts. He emphasized that service members would still receive their paychecks.
“Chuck Schumer recently said, ‘Every day gets better’ during their Radical Left Shutdown. I DISAGREE! If nothing is done, because of ‘Leader’ Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, our Brave Troops will miss the paychecks they are rightfully due on October 15th,” Trump stated.
“This is why I am using my authority, as Commander in Chief, to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th. We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS. I will not allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown.”
“The Radical Left Democrats should OPEN THE GOVERNMENT, and then we can work together and address Healthcare, and many other things that they want to destroy. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he added.
The government entered a shutdown on October 1st after the Senate failed to pass a temporary funding bill. This scenario risked military personnel missing their paychecks — a historic first.
A report from Politico, referencing a White House Office of Management and Budget official, stated that the Pentagon plans to divert funds originally allocated for research and development to ensure service members are paid.
In total, around $8 billion is being reallocated from these accounts to cover the shortfall for military personnel’s pay.
Meanwhile, the shutdown continues, with no immediate resolution in sight as Democrats push for the GOP to concede on health care matters before agreeing to reopen the government. Republican leaders have countered, expressing willingness to collaborate on health care issues post-reopening.
Trump wants to pay the troops. Schumer wants to use them as hostages—to extort Congress into giving taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal aliens. Are you with Trump or Schumer?
