Trump recognized that Tillis' delay could hinder his choice for Fed leadership.

President Donald Trump is set to submit his nominations for Federal Reserve board members to the Senate next week. However, he has some concerns regarding a particular Senate Republican who may hinder the confirmation process.

Kevin Warsh is slated for a confirmation hearing with the Senate Banking Committee after his initial hearing was canceled. Unfortunately, he faces significant opposition from Republican Senator Thom Tillis, who has indicated he will block Warsh’s advancement.

This evidently frustrates President Trump.

When asked about Warsh’s prospects in the Senate during an interview, Trump remarked, “We’ll have to see.” He added, “Maybe not, but that’s why Thom Tillis is no longer a senator; he quit.”

Despite announcing plans to retire from Congress at the end of the year, Tillis still serves as an active senator with the power to vote on Warsh’s confirmation until January 2027.

FOX News Digital has tried to reach out to Tillis’ office for a reaction to the president’s statement.

Tillis has had ongoing conflicts with the Trump administration, particularly when he resisted Republican calls for severe cuts to Medicaid during the One Big Beautiful Bill last year.

As this tension continues, the Justice Department is also investigating Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

Tillis’s reservations seem less about Warsh himself and more linked to the investigation into Powell’s testimony regarding the Fed’s renovation activities concerning two historic buildings on the National Mall.

“I love the candidates. I won’t spend five minutes with them,” Tillis stated. “I’m raising questions about the sham investigation that I plan to vote against unless it’s concluded.”

There are murmurs regarding a prosecutor visiting the Fed headquarters without prior notice on Tuesday.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has reportedly discussed the possibility of halting the investigation with the White House. He suggested that “everyone would benefit from wrapping up the investigation.”

In light of recent uncertainties, Powell has indicated he is willing to stay in his role until a successor is appointed. Yet, Trump has stated he would terminate Powell if he does not resign by next month.

Trump criticized Tillis for potentially hindering nominees who could significantly contribute positively. “I think Kevin Warsh is going to be fantastic. He doesn’t want the legacy of keeping incompetent people around longer than needed,” Trump noted.

Tillis is working on making sure that Warsh remains in the committee until the investigation is resolved, indicating, “I don’t think there’s a way to remove him from the committee. We’re ensuring there’s a vote until we get a final answer.”
