Trump releases intelligence on election weaknesses and promotes SAVE Act

Newt Gingrich: The Constitution Works

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich discussed Donald Trump’s initiatives surrounding the Save America Act, which features mandatory voter ID requirements. He recommended that Trump garner public backing nationwide to overcome legislative hurdles. Gingrich pointed out that there was considerable public support for secure elections, suggesting this could reveal opposing Democratic resistance to voter integrity, particularly in light of the increasing influence of radical socialist candidates.

Conservatives expressed their support for President Trump online after he reiterated his calls for lawmakers to pass the Protecting American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE), citing troubling vulnerabilities in election integrity that his administration claimed to have uncovered.

“Thank you, Mr. President,” commented Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) in a social media post.

“If we don’t pass the Save America Act, we will lose our country. Call your senators and tell them to save our great country,” he added.

Senate Faces a Key Moment for Trump’s Election Priorities with New Republican Plan

President Trump vowed to reveal a series of disclosures regarding the weaknesses identified in the election system.

“Tonight, I am announcing the immediate declassification and release of critical information that uncovers shocking vulnerabilities in our electoral infrastructure,” he stated.

He noted that these new documents would address several serious allegations, including overseas data theft by China, information known by U.S. officials about election weaknesses, how the public has been misled about those issues, and fresh evidence of “election fraud.”

To tackle these concerns, Trump urged lawmakers to pass legislation that would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections.

“Tomorrow, I will call my representatives in the House and Senate and demand they pass the American Rescue Act without delay. Together, we will restore faith and confidence in our country, and we will emerge bigger, better, and stronger than ever before,” Trump remarked.

Shortly after, Republican officials echoed his call online.

“It’s more crucial than ever to eliminate foreign election interference. It’s more crucial than ever to pass the American Rescue Act,” declared Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah).

Hans von Spakovsky, an election expert at the conservative think tank Advancing American Freedom, agreed with the urgency. He stated, “The president is absolutely right that the SAVE Act needs to be passed to implement universal voter ID and citizenship.”

He further noted, “The only reason elected officials oppose this is that they want to facilitate fraud and ensure foreigners can register and vote without getting caught.”

The bill has successfully passed the House multiple times but has faced blockage from Democratic senators, where a minimum of 60 votes is needed to bypass the filibuster.

Currently, Republicans occupy just 53 seats in the House.

Despite Trump’s calls to eliminate the filibuster as part of Senate protocol, some Republicans continue to favor keeping it, believing it fosters a certain level of bipartisan cooperation on significant legislation. Still, more voices have recently called for a reassessment of Senate rules.

Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) stated, “The Senate must end the zombie filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act. Election integrity is far more critical than the Senate’s fading institutional ‘norms.’”

Democratic leaders, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, criticized Trump’s address, claiming that the bill would impose excessive barriers for minorities and other groups participating in elections.

“The SAVE Act is voter suppression. It’s part of a broader conservative agenda to rob power from the people,” Harris argued in a social media post.

She further urged, “Stay home this November because the president aims to undermine your faith in our election system. He knows how frustrated Americans are and wants to ensure you don’t vote.”

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass, shared a similar sentiment.

“Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, and now he’s trying to rig this year’s election with the SAVE America Act to make it harder for millions of women, veterans, rural individuals, and voters of color to cast their votes,” Pressley added in her post.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) joined the chorus of Democratic criticism.

“After listening to the president’s rambling speech, I want him to know that the ‘SAVE America Act’ is going nowhere in the Senate. This will go the way of Donald Trump’s other conspiracy theories. America, use your vote and your voice to preserve our democracy,” Murray stated in a post.

At this point, it remains unclear when the Senate will revisit the SAVE Act.
