U.S. Violent Crime Rate Sees Significant Drop
According to a recent FBI report, the violent crime rate in the U.S. has drastically decreased, marking the largest drop seen in a year. President Trump highlighted this development on Friday, using it as a point to claim he is “making America safe again.”
The 2025 Uniform Crime Report indicates a 9.3% decline in violent crime compared to the previous year. Specific categories show notable reductions: murders are down 18.1%, rapes by 7.6%, robberies by 18.5%, aggravated assaults by 7.2%, and motor vehicle thefts by a staggering 22.7%.
“All the numbers are the lowest on record,” Trump asserted about the findings. During a stop in Long Island, he proclaimed that “our country has the greatest criminal record in history,” identifying himself as a law-and-order president.
The administration has implemented various policies aimed at reducing crime, such as tightening restrictions on illegal immigration and deploying the National Guard to major cities, including Washington, D.C.
This visit to Long Island focused on crime-fighting efforts, a shift from previous economic issues he has emphasized to energize his MAGA supporters ahead of the upcoming elections in November.
A group of uniformed police officers stood behind Trump, acknowledging their contributions to law enforcement. “We have ended the war on police and declared a very strong war on crime,” he stated confidently.
He then turned his attention to criticizing Democratic policies, using a new nickname for them, “Dumbocrats.” “Their policies are so stupid,” he remarked, questioning if anyone present in the room supported defunding police services.
Accompanying Trump at the event were FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Todd Blanche, who visited the Nassau County Police Academy. In the foreword of the report, Patel noted, “The 2025 crime statistics exemplify the incredible work the FBI and our law enforcement partners are doing on the front lines to combat violent crime.”
Crime rates across the nation have been declining after a surge during the coronavirus pandemic. With the midterm elections approaching, President Trump has been utilizing these new statistics to strengthen his position while disparaging Democrats, suggesting they have a connection with criminal activity.
During his time in New York, he also supported Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, taking aim at Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul’s record on crime. “Hochul was such a nightmare when it came to crime and a nightmare for crime,” he criticized.
Trump further alleged that Hochul and her party were siding with criminals, stating, “But Hochul and the radical left stand with gang members, child predators, and violent felons. We stand with hardworking New Yorkers. We support the great people of law enforcement.”
