Trump reveals plans for a 250-foot arch to celebrate America's 250th anniversary

Announcement of New Arc de Triomphe in Washington, D.C.

In a recent press briefing, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt shared an ambitious plan for a new “Arc de Triomphe” to be constructed in Washington, D.C. This 250-foot-tall structure aims to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary and the enduring spirit of America.

“It’s quite beautiful,” Levitt remarked while unveiling the rendering of the arch. “This monumental design will stand tall as a tribute to our history.” The location for the arch will be on vacant land at Memorial Circle, situated on Columbia Island, which is overseen by the National Park Service. Levitt mentioned that plans for the project would be submitted shortly.

“America’s Arc de Triomphe will feature stunning artwork that reflects the achievements and resilience of the American people over the past 250 years,” she elaborated. “This is a project that our grandchildren will look back on with pride.” Starting the construction of this arch during such a significant anniversary feels appropriate, she added.

Despite challenges with Trump’s privately funded White House Ballroom, Levitt stressed the importance of bipartisan support for the arch initiative.

Levitt emphasized that “great nations build beautiful landmarks,” suggesting that this arch could unify Americans across different political beliefs, serving as a symbol of national pride.

The announcement ties into the broader “Freedom 250 Agenda” that the administration has been promoting recently. However, key details like cost, construction timeline, or whether congressional approval is needed for funding were not addressed during the briefing.

The designated area for the arch, located at Memorial Circle near the George Washington Memorial Parkway, strategically connects important ceremonial sites in Washington and Arlington. Levitt indicated that more details regarding the 250th-anniversary celebrations would be revealed in the coming months.
