Trump Reveals Significant Price Cuts on IVF and Fertility Services

Trump Announces IVF and Fertility Treatment Discounts

On Thursday, President Donald Trump revealed that patients will benefit from discounts on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and various fertility treatments.

The White House secured an agreement with EMD Serono, a pharmaceutical company focused on infertility solutions, which will lower prices for IVF and related drugs, including Gonal F, a medication that induces ovulation. Furthermore, EMD Serono committed to selling all drugs it markets in the U.S. at rates comparable to those in other countries.

“We want to make it easier for every couple to have a baby and build the family they’ve always wanted. That’s why today, after thorough negotiations, I’m excited to announce that EMD Serono, one of the biggest manufacturers of fertility medications globally, will offer significant discounts on all fertility drugs it distributes in the United States, including our top seller, Gonal F,” stated Trump.

In addition, the president mentioned that his administration would facilitate insurance companies in providing plans specifically covering infertility treatment costs, marking a historical first in the U.S. for couples seeking treatment insurance.

Generally, a standard IVF cycle amounts to around 23,474 yen, with prices differing by city and region. The overall cost of treatment, encompassing egg retrieval, anesthesia, and implantation, typically ranges between $8,000 and $14,000.

“There’s no greater happiness than this,” Trump remarked. He emphasized that parents and millions of Americans grappling with infertility would gain new opportunities to experience the joys of parenthood.

During his campaign, Trump had pledged to make IVF affordable, a promise that elicited some discontent among his supporters. Back in August 2024, at a campaign event in Michigan, he declared intentions to make IVF free of charge.

Trump has made substantial headway in reducing medication prices through his most-favored-nation pricing policy. Recently, the White House announced that he successfully negotiated a cost-reducing deal with the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. According to a White House fact sheet, in May, Trump signed an executive order named “Most Favored Nation Prescription Drug Prices for U.S. Patients,” which directed the government to align U.S. drug prices with those in other countries.
