Trump reveals significant reductions in IVF and fertility medication costs

Trump’s Announcement on IVF Accessibility

On October 16, 2025, President Donald Trump made a significant announcement aimed at supporting American women and families dealing with infertility challenges.

In a speech from the Oval Office, he discussed plans regarding in vitro fertilization (IVF), detailing a new pricing strategy intended to enhance accessibility for many.

President Trump stated he would “significantly reduce the cost of in vitro fertilization and treatments, and many of the most common fertility drugs, for countless Americans.” He emphasized that “prices are going down, down, down.”

EMD Serono, part of Germany’s Merck KGaA, has reportedly committed to providing most-favored-nation pricing on fertility drugs sold in the U.S.

Libby Horn, the senior vice president of U.S. Fertility and Endocrinology at Merck Serono, noted that the company has been at the forefront of fertility solutions for over four decades. She highlighted that their advancements have played a crucial role in the birth of the first IVF baby in the U.S. and over 6 million births since then.

Additionally, the administration legalized the offering of fertility-specific insurance plans by insurers, making it simpler for families to acquire specialized coverage.

President Trump remarked, “There is no greater happiness and joy than raising children, and the millions of Americans who struggle with infertility will have a new opportunity to share their greatest experience.”

The President also provided insight into the financial impact of these initiatives, asserting that the cost per cycle of IVF will decrease by an estimated 73% for American consumers.

“As a result of these actions, the cost per cycle of the drugs used in IVF will decrease by an estimated 73 percent for U.S. consumers. And as we get into full swing, that number will actually become very significantly higher over time,” he explained.
