Former President Donald Trump was quick to slam Vice President Kamala Harris in her first major television interview since she became the Democratic nominee.
The 45th president slammed Harris in a social media post on Thursday, accusing her of “rambling on” when pressed by CNN host Dana Bash about her past back-and-forth stance on key policy issues.
“Her answers were incoherent and she categorically stated, 'My values haven't changed,' and I agree with that. Her values haven't changed.” Trump criticizes Truth Social She then returned to the list she claims she would pursue as president.
“America will become a wasteland!”
CNN released a preview of the interview, showing Harris being questioned about her past and giving shifting responses, ahead of the full interview, which will air on the network.
This was something several of President Trump's most prominent allies had been hoping to grill Harris on.
She has previously supported policies such as the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, a ban on fracking and expanding the Supreme Court.
But she has since distanced herself from many of those positions.
“I think the most important and significant thing about my policy views and my decisions is that my values have not changed,” Harris said in a preview video.
“You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed and committed to the climate crisis, that it is real and that it is an urgent issue to which standards such as deadlines should be applied.”
It took about 40 days after President Biden made the bold decision on July 21 to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race before Harris, 59, gave a full interview.
Trump, 78, and his campaign quickly seized on the media dearth and began stepping up the pace of the former president's interactions with reporters.
Trump began holding press conferences at various campaign locations and giving short interviews to the media.
Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance has also made increased media appearances in an apparent attempt to smear Harris and accuse her of shirking responsibility.
Trump's supporters also criticized Harris' choice to give her first major television interview since becoming the candidate alongside Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz.
At a campaign rally in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Trump blasted Harris for the high-profile interview and mocked her aesthetic.
“She was sitting behind a desk being interviewed, and I said, 'Dana Bash, you could be famous tonight, and all you have to do is be fair,'” Trump rebuked.
“She was sitting behind that huge desk, but she didn't look like a leader to me. To be honest with you, I can't see her negotiating with President Xi Jinping of China. I can't see her negotiating with Kim Jong Un like we negotiated with Kim Jong Un. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens,” he teased further.
Trump had praised Bash and fellow CNN host Jake Tapper, who moderated the June debate with Biden that sparked a Democratic insurrection against the incumbent president.
Harris and Trump are scheduled to face off in an ABC News debate in Philadelphia on September 10.
