Trump and Xi Jinping Announce Key Agreements Following Bilateral Meeting

President Donald Trump recently shared the outcomes of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which took place in Busan, South Korea. A major focus of their discussions included China’s commitment to assist in addressing the fentanyl crisis, as well as agreements for the purchase of American oil and gas, and the continuation of rare earth mineral exports. Notably, both leaders also agreed to reduce tariffs significantly.

This meeting on Thursday followed Trump’s weeklong trip through Asia, during which he secured various trade deals with countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. In these agreements, Asian nations have largely agreed to eliminate tariffs on U.S. goods and to supply essential minerals necessary for industries in the U.S., thus reducing dependency on China.

After his discussions with Xi and business associates, Trump took to Truth Social to inform the public about the key agreements reached.

“I had a truly great meeting with President Xi of China. There is enormous respect between our two countries, and that will only be enhanced with what just took place. We agreed on many things, and even on some more significant issues, we are very close to resolution,” he stated.

“I was extremely honored that President Xi authorized China to start purchasing large amounts of soybeans, sorghum, and other agricultural products. Our farmers will be very pleased. As I mentioned during my previous administration, farmers should consider buying more land and larger equipment. Thanks to President Xi for this!”

“Additionally, China has agreed to maintain the flow of rare earth and critical minerals. Importantly, China has promised to work diligently with us to curb the fentanyl trade into our country,” Trump continued.

China’s decision to resume exporting rare earth minerals follows earlier restrictions imposed as part of the trade tensions with the U.S. This had raised concerns due to America’s significant reliance on Chinese materials critical for multiple sectors, including defense and electric vehicles.

“China also agreed to initiate the purchase of American energy. A significant transaction concerning oil and gas from Alaska is potentially in the works. Our energy teams are set to meet to explore this opportunity. The deals made today are expected to bring prosperity and security to millions of Americans,” Trump noted.

Trump concluded his post by emphasizing the financial benefits the trade deals are bringing, stating, “Hundreds of billions of dollars are coming into our country because of them. Our nation is strong, respected, and admired again, and the best is yet to come!”

Moreover, both leaders found common ground on tariffs, with Trump indicating a reduction from around 55% on Chinese imports to approximately 45%.

The president characterized the deal as a one-year agreement, subject to yearly review.

“We have a deal,” Trump affirmed. “We’ll renegotiate annually, though I suspect it will be in place for a long duration.”

Trump also expressed optimism about the meeting on social media, referring to it as “amazing” and noting the numerous important decisions made.
