Trump Comments on Russia-Ukraine Conflict After Recent Attacks

Following a significant drone assault on Kiev by Moscow, President Trump described the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war as an unsatisfactory situation. This strike marked the largest drone attack on the Ukrainian capital since the conflict’s outbreak, underscoring issues his administration faced in facilitating peace, despite a recent high-profile meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Upon returning to Andrews Joint Base after attending the US Open Men’s Tennis Final in New York, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, “I’m not satisfied with the overall situation.” He stressed that he had been the toughest on Russia and voiced his commitment to ongoing efforts aimed at resolving the issue.

“I’m not excited about what’s going on,” he elaborated. “I think we’re going to solve that. We’re not happy with anything related to that war.”

This latest Russian attack also marked the first instance of strikes on Ukrainian government buildings since the war began, indicating no signs of a ceasefire from Putin’s end, despite Trump’s evident frustration.

During his comments, the former president was cautious, avoiding direct criticism of Russia or Putin. When asked about the challenges surrounding a peace agreement, he refrained from naming Russian leaders.

“Well, we’ll see. There are some very interesting debates,” Trump mentioned, hinting at upcoming discussions with European leaders in Washington.

He reflected on his recent escalated communications with Putin and acknowledged that he initially believed the Russia-Ukraine conflict would be easy to resolve upon entering office, which has proven to be far more complex.

Trump was also questioned about the situation in Gaza and remained optimistic, suggesting that a resolution was forthcoming. “I think we’re going to do business with Gaza right away. That’s an issue we want to solve for the Middle East, Israel, everyone,” he stated.

In addition, Trump addressed crime in Chicago, promising a decision on future actions within a few days. “We’re going to decide where we’re going in the next day or two,” he emphasized, criticizing the safety conditions in Washington, D.C.

Lastly, he shared his thoughts on the US Open spectators, noting the mixed reception he received—boos and cheers alike—during his appearance, which left him unsure of the crowd’s response given New York City’s more liberal leanings. He referred to them as “great fans.”
