Trump Discusses Call with Putin on Ukraine and Iran
Former President Donald Trump shared insights from his recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the situation regarding Iran.
Trump indicated that Russia is poised to react to Ukraine’s significant drone strikes, which he mentioned have caused around $7 billion in damage to Russia.
“It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that immediately led to peace,” Trump remarked after the nearly hour-and-a-half call. He elaborated that Putin emphasized the necessity to respond to the recent attacks on Russian airfields.
The drone strike involved over 100 drones concealed in large vehicles, aimed at bombers responsible for assaults on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine claimed that more than 40 bombers were either destroyed or damaged, though Russia disputed this, suggesting the figures were lower.
Trump also noted that Putin expressed interest in engaging in negotiations regarding Iran.
“President Putin proposed to participate in discussions with Iran, potentially facilitating a swift conclusion,” Trump said. He added that he feels Iran is rather slow in making decisions on this crucial matter, suggesting a need for a quick resolution.
In light of Putin’s continued military actions and reluctance to seek peace, there are growing calls for tougher sanctions against Russia from various leaders.
“Putin doesn’t want peace. He wants Ukraine,” stated Mike Pence, Trump’s former vice president. He further urged Trump and the U.S. Senate to impose severe sanctions on Russia and bolster military aid for Ukraine, asserting that only U.S. strength can compel Putin to negotiate and achieve lasting peace.
Trump previously expressed frustration over Putin’s actions against Ukrainian civilians, stating, “I used to have a good relationship with Vladimir Putin, but something changed. He has gone off the rails!”
