Trump Suggests Ted Cruz for Supreme Court

On Friday, President Donald Trump entertained the notion of appointing Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to the Supreme Court, humorously claiming that Cruz could secure “100% of the Democratic vote, 100% of the Republican vote.” Trump suggested lawmakers might prefer to keep him out of Congress altogether.

This came after Cruz and several Congressional members joined Trump to discuss energy topics in Corpus Christi, Texas. “We have a really great senator,” Trump commented during an event at the Port of Corpus Christi. “I’m thinking of putting him on the Supreme Court. It’s tough to get these nominations through. And he’s the only person I know who would get unanimous support on both sides. They’re trying to get him out of there.”

The president praised Cruz further, describing him as “a very difficult person, but he’s very good and talented.” Trump stated, “If I had a problem, I would just pick Ted and it would be resolved. He’s smart and a great guy.” It’s interesting to think about who would actually agree on something like this, huh?

Cruz, who earned his law degree from Harvard, has argued multiple cases before the Supreme Court and previously served as Texas attorney general. He returned to private practice after his last Supreme Court case.

Having entered the Senate in 2013 after advocating for limited government and national security, Cruz unsuccessfully pursued the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, suspending his campaign after a disappointing primary in Indiana.

During his remarks in Corpus Christi, Trump also touched on ongoing negotiations with Iran, warning of a “huge decision” regarding potential military action. He mentioned discussions he had with Cruz and other lawmakers on this matter.

“We have a lot going on right now. Big decisions to make… It’s not easy,” Trump remarked. Reflecting on military actions, he expressed his desire for a peaceful resolution but emphasized that the situation with Iran is complex, stating, “They are very difficult people.”

Trump concluded that while he had not made a final decision on military action, he was dissatisfied with the ongoing negotiations.
