Trump Endorses Cuomo Before NYC Mayoral Election
On Monday, President Donald Trump publicly declared his support for former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, just one day ahead of New York City’s mayoral election.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the necessity of backing Cuomo to prevent what he described as extremist policies from emerging under candidate Zoran Mamdani. He acknowledged that voters might have personal reservations about Cuomo but argued that, ultimately, they need to vote for him.
“I would rather see a Democrat with a record of success win than a communist with no experience and a record of complete and utter failure,” he stated, suggesting that Cuomo could potentially do a better job than Mamdani.
Trump also warned that if Mamdani were to win, federal funding for New York City could be jeopardized. He wrote, “If communist candidate Zoran Mamdani wins, it is highly unlikely that I will contribute the required minimum federal funds to my beloved first homeland.”
With Mamdani currently ahead in the polls, Cuomo faces an uphill battle, dependent on Curtis Sliwa stepping back and garnering support. Trump described Mamdani’s policies as destructive to cities, reiterating, “His principles have been tested for over 1,000 years and have never succeeded.”
Amid this political landscape, Mamdani has gained traction by promising to address high rents and the cost of living in the city, although critics fear that his socialist approach could create more chaos instead of alleviating it.
Cuomo, despite having a more significant political background, is struggling to narrow the gap, with recent polls indicating he still has a way to go.
