Former President Trump slammed Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) late Wednesday for what he called a “really awful” speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Shapiro delivered an impassioned speech on Wednesday night, threatening to strip Americans of their rights and freedoms if Trump wins the presidential election in November. Trump responded to the speech on social media, criticizing the Pennsylvania governor and Vice President Harris for doing “nothing” for Israel as the war in Gaza continues.
“The overrated Jewish Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, gave a really awful, lame speech talking about freedom and fighting for comrade Kamala Harris’ presidency,” Trump said last night. The truth of society.
He added: “Yet she hates Israel and simply seeks to make Israel’s complicated journey to survival as difficult as possible, in the hope that ultimately it will fail.”
The former president also said Shapiro “refuses to acknowledge that I am a great friend of Israel and the Jewish people.”
His comments came after Republicans claimed Harris didn’t choose Shapiro as her running mate because of his faith, an assertion disputed by many Jewish Democrats.
“I have done more for Israel than any president and frankly, more for Israel than anyone else. Not even close. Shapiro has done nothing for Israel and never will,” the former president continued in the post. “Comrade Kamala Harris, the Radical Left Marxist who stole the nomination from Crooked Joe, will do even less. Israel has a big problem!”
Shapiro had been seen as one of the leading contenders for the Democratic vice presidential nomination, but he has come under fire in recent weeks for his stance on the Israeli-Hamas war and his handling of pro-Palestinian protests.
Harris ultimately picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat) as her running mate, but Shapiro is set to be a key ally in the Keystone State, seen as a must-win for the White House.
Earlier this week, Shapiro responded to Republican claims that Republican presidential nominee Trump was not chosen as Harris’ running mate because he is Jewish, blasting Trump for not having the credibility to speak out about anti-Semitism.
“Well, the person who’s leading the effort to bring that into the dialogue is Donald Trump. He has absolutely no right to say anything about anti-Semitism or hatred or bigotry, because he’s the one who’s bringing that into the dialogue. He’s the one who’s dividing Americans,” Shapiro told MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
The Hill has reached out to Shapiro’s office and the Harris campaign for comment.
