Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford said on CNN's “News Central” on Tuesday that President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs in Canada are “downhill faster than the American bobsled team.”
“Canadians love Americans. We're one of the people causing these issues. I've spoken with the senators and the people in Congress, the governors, Republicans and Democrats, and none of them agree with him. I spoke with the business CEOs of large corporations who are completely against us. President Trump fulfilled his obligation to cut costs to create more jobs. This is the exact opposite. The auto sector buys more than 400% of cars than Mexico and 200% more than anywhere in the world. And he set up a smoke screen. He keeps the goal post moving. Well, the market is loud and clear. The market goes downhill faster than the American bobsled team. And we are closed in our US factories and the assembly lines continue to be closed. In the automotive sector, it can be five, eight, eight days before the parts that go back and forth eight times across the border. This is not necessary. And we need to retaliate and I apologize to the Americans. It's not you. It's your president that is causing this problem.”
He added: People refuse to purchase American products. This is not correct. We love America. We love people. And the president needs to stop. ”
