President-elect Donald Trump is threatening to impose tariffs on a range of countries upon taking office as part of an expected effort to boost oil and gas production in the United States.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said he has told the European Union that it will increase U.S. oil and gas imports or face tariffs under the next president.
“I told the European Union that we must offset our huge deficit with the United States with major purchases of our oil and gas,” Trump wrote. “Otherwise, there will always be tariffs!!!”
Throughout his presidential campaign, Trump vowed to restore America's energy dominance by ramping up U.S. oil and natural gas production. Specifically, President Trump announced plans to expand hydraulic fracturing and lift President Joe Biden's moratorium on new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permits.
