Trump Issues Warning to Venezuela’s New Leader

Recently, President Trump delivered a pointed warning to the newly appointed leader of Venezuela, indicating there could be serious repercussions if she continues to defy U.S. demands. This came on the heels of a U.S.-led operation that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro, the country’s previous president.

In an interview, Trump stated that should Delcy Rodriguez fail to do what he considers the “right thing,” she could “pay a very high price—maybe even more than Mr. Maduro.” He emphasized that his administration would not tolerate what he labeled an outright rejection of U.S. intervention.

During a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump expressed that reconstruction and regime change in Venezuela, whatever term one uses, is preferable to the current situation, noting, “It can’t get any worse.”

The White House didn’t respond immediately to requests for comments on this matter.

Trump’s statements followed a surprising announcement that U.S. agents had successfully carried out a mission to detain Maduro and his spouse.

He mentioned that a team appointed by the U.S. would manage Venezuela until its political landscape becomes stable and also vowed to revive American energy investments in the country, which has the largest oil reserves globally.

According to reports, Trump has shaped his foreign policy using what’s being dubbed a modern version of the Monroe Doctrine—this document originally aimed to protect the Western Hemisphere from European colonialism. He’s termed his approach the “Donroe Doctrine.”

Moreover, Trump suggested that Venezuela might not be the last country to experience U.S. pressure, hinting at potential interventions beyond Latin America. He also reiterated his ongoing interest in Greenland, citing its crucial strategic importance for U.S. national security interests.
