Trump thanks Supreme Court for hearing immunity case

Former President Trump on Wednesday thanked the Supreme Court for agreeing to consider possible criminal charges against his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“Legal scholars greatly appreciate today’s Supreme Court decision recognizing presidential privilege. Without executive privilege, the president cannot function properly or make decisions in the best interests of the United States. “We won’t be able to do that,” President Trump said. I wrote it on Truth Social.

“After leaving office, the president may even become paralyzed by constant concerns about the possibility of unjust prosecution and retaliation. This could actually lead to blackmail and threats against the president,” it added.

The Supreme Court agreed to take up the case Wednesday in an order suspending President Trump’s Jan. 6 criminal trial proceedings. The order included an expedited timeline for the case, with the court setting oral arguments for the week of April 22nd.

President Trump had previously appealed a ruling that denied him immunity and asked the Supreme Court to postpone the federal election-subversion criminal trial. Special Counsel Jack Smith had asked the Supreme Court to deny President Trump’s request to delay the trial on his appeal.

Mr. Trump and his lawyers argued that the former president should be granted presidential immunity from the four federal felonies he faces in the election interference case against Mr. Smith. Mr. Trump has maintained his innocence.

Trump continued to repeat these claims. in another post On True Social Wednesday.

“The president must be free to decide what is right for our country without undue pressure. Without immunity, the presidency as we know it would no longer exist.” It will be. Many actions that would benefit our nation will not be taken,” Trump wrote.

“This was never what the Founders had in mind. Legal experts and scholars say the president must have full executive privilege. The president is free to make appropriate decisions. His mind must be clear and he must not be guided by fear of retribution!” he added.
